Emily Zwart - Brock Student Intern

We are delighted to welcome our newest intern, Emily Zwart.  Emily is in the Media and Communication Studies program at Brock University. During her time with Bethlehem, she hopes to gain experience and skills by actively participating in the creative process for developing communications and online promotions for our Housing Hero campaign and Empty Bowls fundraiser. Emily has joined our Housing Hero Task Force in the role of Secretary and will also be an integral part of our Empty Bowls event team.

During an interview with Emily we learned about some of her personal and professional interests.

Share something interesting about yourself:
I have an adventurous spirit, and love to travel. The best places I’ve been to so far is China, Europe, Mexico, and Aruba. I love animals, and I have the cutest little dachshund named Bella, and I recently adopted a cat named Ella.

Do you live in Niagara?
I have lived in the Niagara Region my whole life. My family and I are from Grimsby but during the school year I reside in a student house in St. Catharines.

What is your favourite colour combination?
I have always loved purple ever since I can remember, so my favourite colour combination would have to be a lilac purple and white.

You’re in your 4th Year of University. How have you benefited from your education so far?
I have always loved going to school, and being in University has helped me grow in terms of gaining confidence, and in my understanding of how we communicate in the world around us. I have been able to take many of the theories that I have learned and applied them to real life situations.

What do you hope to learn or accomplish by interning with Bethlehem?
This is my first time working in a professional environment, and I hope to be creative in my work here and successfully execute the Housing Hero Campaign and Empty Bowls fundraiser communications. I am honoured to be a part of this team!  I am eager to learn how to expand my skills and build long lasting connections.

When did you realize that Media and Communications is what you were good at?
I started volunteering at a young age, and once I started getting more involved with social media I realized how much creativity it needs, and I feel that it is something I am strong in. I am passionate about Bethlehem’s mission, and I am honoured to be able to share the good things that this organization does for the people of Niagara.

What did you want to be when you were growing up?
I wanted to be an artist when I was growing up. I have always been creative in everything that I do, and it is still something that I can apply towards my future career.

What is something you would like to be remembered by/for?
I want to be remembered as an overall positive person and as someone who is reliable and caring. I want to ensure that my work with the Housing Hero Campaign and Empty Bowls fundraiser is something that everyone can be proud of. I am honored to be a part of this amazing team!
